Empowering Education: KKN UNIKU Presents Poetry and Language Training in Cinyasag Primary Schools

Elementary Schools students at Cinyasag, Panawangan, Ciamis, West Java actively participated in the poetry and foreign language training hosted by Group 6 of KKN UNIKU.

JABARTODAY.COM-CIAMIS. An extraordinary initiative has been realized by the KKN (Community Service Program) student group from Kuningan University, specifically Group 6 placed in Cinyasag Village. As part of their flagship program named “Cinyasag Reads,” they conducted an inspiring series of activities in four Elementary Schools in the village, namely SDN 1 Cinyasag, SDN 2 Cinyasag, SDN 3 Cinyasag, and SDN 4 Cinyasag. This initiative took place from July 24th to August 8th, 2023.

One of the main activities of this program was poetry training and foreign language introduction for upper-grade students, namely grades 4, 5, and 6. Additionally, lower-grade students, namely grades 1, 2, and 3, were introduced to literacy in reading, writing, and numeracy. The main objectives of this initiative were to implement a literacy movement in schools and to enhance students’ reading interests from an early age. Furthermore, this program aimed to foster creativity among students through poetry with a local theme, namely Cinyasag Village. The introduction to a foreign language was also conducted as a way to develop better communication skills and to prepare students for the challenges of the global world.

These activities were held on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays in each elementary school involved. The applied method was fun learning, which combines game-based learning to create a relaxed and enjoyable learning atmosphere for students.

The response from Elementary School teachers in Cinyasag Village towards this initiative has been overwhelmingly positive. Mr. Solihin, the Head of SDN 4 Cinyasag, stated, “We fully support and are very open to this program. Our students are highly motivated by the new learning experiences brought by KKN students. This initiative brings a new spirit of learning for our students.”

The leader of KKN 06 Cinyasag, Bias Adam Lutfiansyah with enthusiasm, said, “We plan to compile the poems from this poetry training into an anthology called ‘Poetry Anthology of Cinyasag Village.’ We hope our contribution can bring tangible benefits in the field of education, especially in Cinyasag Village.”

This initiative brings a fresh spirit to learning in Cinyasag Village and is expected to be a milestone in developing students’ potential and enriching their perspectives. Through efforts like these, the village demonstrates its commitment to providing quality education for the younger generation, who are the hope for the future. (Noval)
