Jabartoday.com – Kualalumpur. In a powerful display of unity and advocacy, the Malaysian Youth Council, led by M. Izzat Afifi bin Abd Hamid, and the National Youth Committee of Indonesia, headed by Tantan Taufiq Lubis, have issued a joint statement condemning the ongoing violence in Gaza, which has now surpassed 200 days of conflict. This period has seen a devastating toll with more than 34,000 lives lost, the majority being children and women, and over 77,000 people severely injured due to relentless terrorist attacks and subsequent military actions.
According to the joint statement, the siege has led to catastrophic humanitarian conditions, with 17,000 children left orphaned and over 2 million individuals displaced, turning them into refugees far from their homeland. The youth leaders emphasized the scale of destruction, noting that 75,000 tons of bombs have been dropped on Gaza, exacerbating the dire situation.
The youth organizations strongly criticized what they described as atrocities committed by the Israeli regime, highlighting the desperate need for international intervention to halt further violence and provide urgent humanitarian relief. They also stressed the importance of justice and representation, advocating for full membership of Palestine in the United Nations as a step toward recognizing their sovereignty and right to self-determination.
The statement calls on intergovernmental bodies, including the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Non-Aligned Movement, to support Palestine’s full membership in the UN. This, they argue, would allow Palestine to actively participate in international forums crucial to their future.
Both leaders urged unity among all Palestinian factions, emphasizing that solidarity is essential for achieving a lasting peace. The statement concludes with a call to the global community to not only speak but act, insisting on immediate assistance for those affected, ensuring adequate medical care, and protection for those forced to flee the violence.
The stance taken by the Malaysian and Indonesian youth organizations reflects a growing international sentiment demanding a halt to the violence in Gaza and a concerted effort to address its humanitarian crisis. (ruz)
