Jabartoday.com-Kuningan. In the rapidly evolving digital landscape, the public transport sector has seen significant changes, notably with the emergence of online ojek services. These services, which gained immense popularity in 2015, offer the convenience of app-based bookings, appealing to the modern desire for instant and efficient solutions. The rise of online ojek services sparked debates, particularly among traditional ojek pangkalan (motorcycle taxi stand) drivers, as it threatened their long-established means of livelihood by decreasing their customer base and income.

Despite these challenges, many “ojek pangkalan” drivers in Kuningan have persevered. Ujang, a local “ojek pangkalan” driver, remarked, “In today’s era, with more people owning private vehicles, our customer base has naturally dwindled.” He acknowledges that while online ojek services have impacted their business, the shift in consumer preference towards private transportation is a more significant factor in their reduced earnings.

Reflecting on the changes, Ujang shared, “My earnings were sufficient before online ojek services came into play. Though they have declined now, it’s not just due to online competition. Many people own private vehicles, so it’s not fair to solely blame online ojek.” As of 9/12/2023, he added, “I don’t have high expectations under these circumstances, but I plan to continue as an ojek pangkalan driver.” Despite fewer clients, Ujang remains committed, sometimes working late into the night to earn extra income.
