On International Disability Day, Anies Greets People with Disabilities Through a Letter, Here’s the Content

Jabartoday.com-JAKARTA, Presidential candidate Anies Baswedan, together with the National Disability Deputy of the AMIN National Team, has a unique way of commemorating International Disability Day 2023, observed every December 3.

Amidst his busy schedule touring Indonesia for campaigning, Anies, along with the National Disability Deputy of the AMIN National Team, took the time to write a letter to people with disabilities as a form of support for them.

In his letter, Anies acknowledged that he has been interacting with people with disabilities for a long time. Therefore, when he became the Governor of DKI Jakarta, he strongly supported people with disabilities through various programs.

“For a long time, in the roles we have played, we have had many opportunities to interact with friends with disabilities. These interactions have further convinced us to strive for inclusivity principles in every policy. When entrusted with the task in Jakarta, support for people with disabilities was reflected in one of the points in the 23 Work Promises,” said Anies in his letter.

“Alhamdulillah, our support for over 14,000 people with disabilities in the capital city has been realized through various policies, such as the Jakarta Disability Card, disability-friendly public facilities, and accessible public open spaces,” he added.

Anies promised that if he is elected as President in the 2024 Presidential Election, he will remain committed to generating ideas and programs that support people with disabilities.

In fact, in his letter, Anies offered several ideas or initiatives that would become programs if he is entrusted with leading Indonesia in the 2024 Presidential Election.

First, the Disability Card for All as an identification card for the distribution of aid, job searches, and other important initiatives for people with disabilities.

Second, discounts on public services such as public transportation and electricity fees.

Third, the creation of disability-friendly public facilities.

Here is the content of Anies Baswedan and the National Disability Deputy of the AMIN National Team’s letter in commemoration of International Disability Day 2023:

Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh,

Respected ladies and gentlemen, may this letter find you in good health and happiness. Allow this letter to be a space for us to connect on the occasion of International Disability Day.

For a long time, in the roles we have played, we have had many opportunities to interact with friends with disabilities. These interactions have further convinced us to strive for inclusivity principles in every policy. When entrusted with the task in Jakarta, support for people with disabilities was reflected in one of the points in the 23 Work Promises.

Alhamdulillah, our support for over 14,000 people with disabilities in the capital city has been realized through various policies, such as the Jakarta Disability Card, disability-friendly public facilities, and accessible public open spaces.

Initiatives with an inclusive spirit were not carried out by us alone. You, individually or as organizations or disability advocacy communities, are important parts of the collaboration to create a just city for people with disabilities.

After managing the capital, we were invited to take on greater responsibilities. With the intention and blessings of Allah, we accepted the invitation to participate in the General Election (Pemilu) in 2024.

For us, this invitation is an effort to continue advocating for justice for more people, including our friends with disabilities. We realize this commitment by forming the Disability Deputy, which plays a role in generating ideas and programs that support people with disabilities.

On International Disability Day, together with the Disability Deputy of the AMIN National Team, we would like to present some ideas for our friends with disabilities.

First, the Disability Card for All, as an identification card for the distribution of aid, job searches, and other important initiatives for people with disabilities.

Second, discounts on public services such as public transportation and electricity fees.

Third, the creation of disability-friendly public facilities.

Allow us to continue the dialogue and collaboration with our friends with disabilities to bring about fair ideas. May Allah SWT always bestow protection, and may this endeavor bring goodness to us all, Ameen.

Wassalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh,

Anies Baswedan & Disability Deputy.
