KNPI Calls on KPK to Question Former President Jokowi in Hajj Quota Case

Tantan Taufik Lubis, the Chairman of  KNPI emphasizes the need for a transparent investigation by KPK into alleged irregularities in Hajj quota management.

Jabartoday.com-Jakarta. The Chairman of the Central Executive Board of the Indonesian National Youth Committee (DPP KNPI), Tantan Taufik Lubis, has urged the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to immediately summon and question former President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) as a witness in the alleged corruption case involving Hajj quota management, which implicates former Minister of Religious Affairs, Yaqut Cholil Qoumas.

Tantan argued that Jokowi is a key figure in the controversy surrounding Indonesia’s Hajj quota, as the additional quota obtained by Indonesia was inseparable from Jokowi’s direct role in lobbying the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

“We urge the KPK to immediately examine Jokowi as a witness in the alleged Hajj quota corruption case involving former Minister of Religious Affairs Gus Yaqut. We want to know what was discussed and how the lobbying process with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was carried out by Jokowi,” Tantan stated in his official remarks.

Tantan further emphasized that the designation of Yaqut Cholil Qoumas as a suspect in the alleged corruption case related to Hajj quota management should serve as an entry point for a broader investigation into the governance and distribution of Indonesia’s Hajj quota.

“We hope that the KPK will conduct a transparent and fair investigation, and that no one is exempt from examination, including Jokowi, who is considered a key figure in the Hajj quota polemic in Indonesia,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Secretary General of DPP KNPI, Ahmad Fauzan, stated that during the investigation process, the KPK has also examined a number of Hajj and Umrah travel agencies to trace the flow of quota distribution, including potential irregularities in the utilization of the additional quota. He urged the KPK to immediately name suspects from the business or travel agency sector as well.

Fauzan noted that alleged irregularities in the Hajj quota not only affect legal and state financial aspects, but also have the potential to impact Indonesia’s diplomatic relations with Saudi Arabia. Therefore, he stressed that extra seriousness is required from law enforcement agencies to fully resolve corruption cases within the ministry.

Meanwhile, the KPK emphasized that investigators are focusing on aspects of quota management and distribution within the country, regardless of the diplomatic process involved in securing additional quotas, which falls under the authority of the central government. [roez]
